Back in June a special delivery arrived on my doorstep: frankie magazine’s second volume of SPACES – an exploration of creative homes and studios in Australia.
Thanks to the lovely peeps at frankie magazine I have two copies of the second volume of SPACES
to giveaway! Want to win? Leave a comment below and tell me about your own favourite creative space. Two winners will be drawn at random and announced next Friday. Good luck!
Below are few beautiful photos from one of my favourite stories in the edition, the beautiful New South Wales home of artist Laura Jones. I’ve always dreamed of having an art studio in the countryside, sigh. One day!

P.s To prepare for the lead–up to Christmas, Frankie Magazine are also offering free postage within Australia for people who buy a copy of SPACES from the frankie website. Copies will also be re-released in newsagents and bookstores this coming Monday.
“I think studios are often really private spaces, I don’t care
who comes to my house but I get a bit protective about who
visits my studio. I think a studio is like a mirror or an
open diary of someone’s brain.”
Laura’s cottage is part of a larger property with two other houses
on it and she has access to the whole lot. “I’m free to wander around
and pick flowers. It’s like a park! The garden seems to have been
very well thought-out. There is almost always something flowering
no matter what the season, which has been great for my paintings.”
She’s kept her space simple – it’s fresh and peaceful,
with personal touches in the form of patterned textiles,
artworks and an abundance of floral arrangements
adding warmth, colour and character.
This is an extract from Frankie Magazine’s second volume of Spaces.

ooooooooooooh! GIMME! My favourite creative space is the William Rickett’s Sanctuary in the Dandenong Ranges. It’s full of beautiful creations and also a really great spot to sit peacefully and write, draw, knit…
Me please! My favourite creative space is my light filled sunroom in St Kilda, where I’m surrounded by music and inspiration, and have beautiful sea views!
Oohlala Studio is my wee santuary, time standstill, surrounded by paintings of Frida Kahlo , walls of jewelery, mannequins in different stages of creative projects, as the late afternoon sun heats the concrete floor , my space revels itself as a creative cacoon inspiring, colouring, and delighting everyone who steps through the door.
My favourite space is my desk, it’s usually a mess, but I’d rather it be called ‘organised chaos’.
Right now, when I’m in the middle of a huge house renovation, my favorite creative space is that house. But really, as a lover of photography, everywhere – especially when the light is good – is my favorite creative space.
i only have a small 30X30 inch table to work on, because it’s a small house, but i still get endless joy from creating. i’m now making junk journals, and doing some pastel portraits…..it stretches to the floor when i run out of room, LOL ;)
